Author Exposes NJ Corrections Department Corruption December17
Kenneth P. Freeman Discusses Memoir at Quaker Bridge Mall Borders Express
Hillside, NJ — Author Kenneth P. Freeman will be signing his exposé on the New Jersey Department of Corrections, Rose Tainted Justice: Privileges, Power, and Internal Affairs, on Sunday, December 17, 2006, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Borders Express in the Quaker Bridge Mall, Route 1 and Quakerbridge Road, Lawrenceville, NJ.
Rose Tainted Justice takes readers on a disturbing journey into government gone wrong. For anyone who stands up to power, the former Senior Investigator’s story resonates with the painful truths and struggle that only a first-hand account can convey. Considered a “rising star” by top officials in Internal Affairs, Mr. Freeman had an unblemished record before becoming an outspoken whistleblower.
He recalls an incident with a confidential informant who the F.B.I. questioned regarding his involvement in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. “I couldn’t believe my own chief was ordering me to falsify the facts of my investigation, an act that would’ve meant certain death for our informant.” Mr. Freeman refused to relent and was soon declared an outcast not to be trusted.
“[Rose Tainted Justice] is a who's who on the corruption, retaliation and head turning that existed within the New Jersey Department of Corrections,” says Joseph Amato, President of
PBA Local 382, in a recent memo to the union. “What was most shocking to me was to read about the lengths that state prison officials would go either to misuse their authority to hurt people or to protect certain individuals from investigations,” he continues.
Mr. Freeman describes another favorite practice of Internal Affairs, labeling officers as mentally incapable of performing their duties. “I.A. has their own list of psychologists to do the dirty work,” Mr. Freeman explains. However, he managed to avoid the state’s psychologists trap, “I knew their game, and I knew how to fight back. But for most [cops], it’s over before they get started.”
